Applying the Standard:
Adiia.
Marks and Comments.
Vocabulary and Grammar - 4
Adiia tends to respond with phrases and some sentences in ways that fulful the requirements of most test tasks. Most of her contributions are sentences rather than individual words or phrases.
Maybe they can be.
They are playing a video game.
On Monday they can help children with math.
I can see a girl. Maybe she’s Tim’s sister.
Because space more interesting than maths.
The message is usually clear, although errors may obscure the meaning:
I can see a TV. It’s next to an o’clock.
I enjoying to do sports, play on playboards and walk and ride my bike.
She is falling a volleyball.
She can connect ideas with a few basic linkers and simple connectors:
and (He was with his mum and sister).
because (Yes, because when you read the book, your brain… you will be clever).
that’s all (It's Gagarin’s park. It's a… Kulturs house. And that’s all.)
Adiia is able to use a range of necessary grammatical forms to complete the tasks. Errors do not impede understanding.
Yesterday he played with his cat. (past simple)
He is going to read a book in the park. (‘going to’ with future meaning)
They are playing a video game. (present continuous)
Because space more interesting than maths. (absence of the auxiliary verb, but the meaning is comprehensible)
Who does go to game club at 4 pm? (wrong structure of the subject question, but the meaning is still clear).
She uses the A2 level vocabulary necessary to complete most of the tasks: brush, space, cost, shorts, delicious, ride my bike.
Phonological Control - 3
Almost always speaks clearly and understandably, although some sounds are mispronounced: with [wif], about [‘abo: t], who [wu:], club [klub], country [kauntri], poster [pɒstə]. Today he at a zush (??? - unclear). O’clock – wrong stress.
Sometimes it is not clear what she is saying:
In the window, a lot of (… -unintelligible) houses.
More interesting pla-ces than in a countra-sits. (countryside?)
At times her pronunciation becomes syllabic: stu-dents, pla-ces.
There is some evidence of appropriate intonation: And she is wearing a red ↗T-shirt and black ↘shorts.
Interaction - 4
Can ask for support using the rehearsed formula “Can you repeat the question, please” which becomes somewhat repetitive.
There is some hesitation and reformulation when attempting to answer questions:
I think he buying…. he buying… he buying … he buying brush for his cat.
I doing…I enjoying to do sports.
I think Ishim is... I think it’s …it’s Pleshkova has got… has got delicious food.
Adiia can be described as a strong A2 candidate. She attempts to give extended answers and is able to answer all questions of the examiner, expanding on them and expressing her opinion, despite some hesitation, false starts and reformulation. She may ask for support if necessary. She has a reasonable control of simple grammatical forms and is intelligible. Her weakest aspect is pronunciation: individual sounds, word and sentence stress. Overall, most of her contributions are relevant and the intended message is communicated successfully.
