Limited mastery of simple grammatical structures:
He is a cat. I like rice. Her name is Wagner. They are eating lunch. It’s yummy. I good at martial arts. I 13 years old. Two woman and two boy. In picture A family in the house. Because eat breakfast.
Some words are used effectively to complete the tasks (e.g. black fur and blue eyes; martial arts), but the candidate is severely limited in their application and relies on one-word answers: learning, grandparents, rice, Russian.
Links words and phrases with very basic connectors: and (black fur and blue eyes / Two woman and two boy / 20 and five); because (Because eat breakfast); too (In picture B four people, too). The speech can be unconnected.: Go to sport. I good at martial arts. / Macarons. Eat breakfast.
Speech is generally clear, with occasional unclear words: macarons /’mækərəʊns/.
Shows limited control of word stress. Rhythm is significantly affected by hesitations, and overall turns are short, with sometimes long pauses between phrases and words.
Interaction is somewhat limited due to long pauses and significant hesitation which puts a strain on the listener; however, there are instances of effective communication, especially in task 1, when the candidate greets the examiner, talks about her cat and her plans for the next weekend.
