Independent Language Assessment Aligned with CEFR

Why choose Wiseman Skills?

Wiseman Skills is an independent language assessment system designed to evaluate foreign language proficiency across different age groups. The system is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and provides objective, standardised results that can be used for educational planning, progress tracking, and certification.

The exams are developed by language assessment specialists and are not tied to specific teaching methods or coursebooks. This approach allows institutions, teachers, and learners to receive an accurate picture of language competence based on internationally recognised standards.

Language Exams for Kids and Teens

Wiseman Skills currently offers English language exams for children and teenagers through two main products: Wiseman Skills KIDS and Wiseman Skills TEENS.

Wiseman Skills KIDS is designed for learners aged 6 to 13 and assesses foundational language skills, including listening, reading, and language use. The exam content is age-appropriate and aligned with CEFR levels, ensuring reliable assessment while maintaining a child-friendly format.

Wiseman Skills TEENS is intended for learners aged 13 to 19 and focuses on academic language competence, exam readiness, and practical communication skills. The exam structure reflects the cognitive and educational needs of teenage learners and supports progression through CEFR levels.

Assessment Aligned with CEFR

All Wiseman Skills assessments are aligned with the CEFR, which provides a common basis for describing language ability across Europe and beyond. CEFR alignment ensures that exam results are comparable, transparent, and meaningful for educational institutions and learners worldwide.

Wiseman Skills applies an independent assessment approach, combining expert-designed tasks with clear scoring criteria. This methodology allows the system to remain flexible while preserving consistency and reliability across different languages and exam formats.

Adaptive Computer-Based Testing (CAT)

Wiseman Skills is developing an adaptive computer-based testing system (CAT) for language assessment. CAT technology adjusts the difficulty of test tasks in real time based on a candidate’s responses, allowing for more precise measurement of language ability.
The adaptive testing model is designed to be scalable and can be applied to any language that can be standardised according to the CEFR. This approach reduces testing time while increasing accuracy and provides detailed diagnostic feedback for learners and institutions.

Learning Materials and Skill Development

In addition to examinations, Wiseman Skills develops learning materials aimed at supporting language skill development and exam readiness. In Step with Max is designed for children aged 6 to 13 who are learning English as a foreign language.
These materials focus on developing and reinforcing key language skills and can be adapted for different European languages. The learning resources complement the assessment system and support systematic language development.

Multilingual and International Perspective

Wiseman Skills is designed as a multilingual assessment platform. While the current focus is on English language assessment, the system can be adapted for other languages aligned with the CEFR.

The development roadmap includes language assessments for additional European languages as well as a Chinese language exam. This international perspective allows Wiseman Skills to respond to changing educational needs and global language learning trends.

Partnership and Recognition

Wiseman Skills works in partnership with educational institutions, examination centres, and organisations interested in independent language assessment. Partnership opportunities include exam delivery, certification, and the integration of assessment solutions into existing educational programmes.

By offering transparent assessment standards and flexible implementation models, Wiseman Skills supports partners in delivering reliable language evaluation to learners of different ages and backgrounds.
