In Task 1, candidates are given a scenario by the examiner, showing a certain scene with a variety of characters and / or items in. The candidate must firstly show they understand the vocabulary, by answering the examiners prompts to point to an item. Secondly, the examiner will ask the candidate to place an item from the six item cards provided into certain places in the picture, prompted by the examiner. Lastly, the candidate will be asked general questions about the picture, and the candidates should answer the questions asked. This task is designed to show the candidates’ ability to understand different at-level vocabulary, show their understanding of prepositions and their ability to answer basic questions about the picture and / or cards correctly.

In Task 2, the examiner shows the candidate two different pictures. For picture #1, the candidate must answer at least three questions based on the picture. The examiner will then show picture #2, and the candidate will answer a question from the examiner based on picture #2, and then be asked to tell the examiner more about the picture. This task is designed to show the candidates range in vocabulary, as well as their ability to answer questions with the correct information, using at-level grammar and vocabulary when describing pictures.

In Task 3, candidates are asked a variety of questions across a range of topics, which the candidate should know from their everyday life and interests. The candidate must answer these questions correctly. This task is made to show candidates’ ability to converse in a looser but structured setting, testing their knowledge of at-level grammar, vocabulary and ability to talk about generalised, real-life interests, hobbies and situations.

In Task 1, students are shown two similar pictures, but with a number of differences within each picture. Students should notice at least three differences in the pictures, which can be a difference in noun, verb, preposition, character, colour or other difference. This task is designed to show the students’ wide knowledge of vocabulary (listed above) and ability to answer in a grammatically correct way.

For this task, students are presented with six pictures, shared across two different characters. Each character has three different pictures, showing what the character did (past tense), is doing (now), general life (present), and will do (future). The examiner will ask a variety of questions based on these pictures. Task 2 is designed to show the students’ ability to understand vocabulary and grammar in context, as well as showing they can correctly engage in conversation, accurately answering questions with the correct at-level vocabulary and grammar.

In Task 3, students have to complete two tasks. In the first task, students need to tell the examiner a number of elements which are wrong with the picture. In the second task, students need to tell the examiner at least three points which the character must do in the picture to correct what is wrong about the picture. This task is designed to show the students ability to highlight mistakes, and correct them using their range of vocabulary and understand the implications of necessity throughout their grammar.

In Task 4, candidates are asked a variety of questions across a range of topics, which the candidate should know from their everyday life and interests. This task is made to show the candidates’ ability to converse in a looser but structured setting, testing their knowledge of at-level grammar, vocabulary and ability to talk about generalised, real-life interests, hobbies and situations.

Task 1 is designed to show the candidates’ ability to understand vocabulary and grammar in context, as well as showing they can correctly engage in conversation, accurately answering questions with the correct at-level vocabulary and grammar.

For Task 2, students are given the opportunity to show their ability to answer and then ask questions, based on the given context / situation. Firstly, students must answer at least four questions, which are based on the card given to them. Secondly, students must make full questions and ask the examiner the fully-formed questions, based on the prompt card given to them - The examiner will then answer the student’s questions with a relevant answer. This task is an opportunity for the students to answer questions based on a fixed context, as well as showing the ability to make grammatically correct questions based on prompts, using correct at-level vocabulary and grammar.

In Task 3, students are presented with a picture, which they must complete by doing two different tasks. For the first part, students will highlight and tell the examiner at least four different things they see in the picture. This part of the task is designed to give the students the opportunity to use their at-level vocabulary and grammar, such as sentence structures and use of prepositions. For the second part of Task 3, students will be asked at least two questions by the examiner regarding the picture, which the student will then answer. This part of the task is to test the students ability to understand the question and answer questions in a correct manner.

In Task 4, students are asked a variety of questions in the context of a certain topic (Ex: Travel), which the student should know from their everyday life and interests. This task is made to show the students’ ability to converse in a looser but structured setting, testing their knowledge of at-level grammar, vocabulary and ability to talk about generalised, real-life interests, hobbies and situations.
